i want some good surround sound speakers for as cheap as i can get. what would you recommend
well, i can spend anywhere from $300- $500 and i want a system with the least amount of mess (as in wires)
Answer
"Good" and "as cheap as can get" are two incompatible things. At the lowest end, you can look at a decent self-powered 5.1 speaker set made for computers, like the one linked below, for under $60. (This won't have a remote volume control and you might need to get some adapters since the hook-ups aren't optimized for your TV's outputs; also you won't get big Home Theater boom-bass out of it).
If you have a slightly bigger budget you can get a reasonable entry-level setup with a real subwoofer, under $300 (see second link for an example).

My new tv doesn't have yellow and red outputs for my sound system?
Alex
I bought a new HD tv and the only audio output is for a single optical cable. My current surround sound system only uses the red/white inputs. What should i do?
Answer
Keep in mind that you current surround system will only provide you with stereo sound on the RCA input. Those home theater in a box are not very flexible and reliable at all. They are mainly designed to have surround sound with the built in player. Your tv optical audio output is a digital signal that can carry a 5.1 audio. You should up grade to a system like an Onkyo HT-3500, it is a 5.1 receiver and a set of speakers. You can demo the system at any Fry's Electronic and it retails for under $300. You add a Panasonic Blu Ray disc player for under $90 and you have a nice dependable system. Hope this will help you out.
